Rose gold gets its color from copper in the alloy, and the more copper goes in, the redder and the harder the metal becomes. Tourmaline is a natural partner for it, since no other gem species covers as much of the color range – near-black through the pinks and greens, and stones that shift color along their length within a single crystal.
