Not sure this is the right piece? Tell us your budget and we'll work out what to buy
Only in 1913 did the Buffalo nickel exist in two forms. James Earle Fraser’s original reverse set FIVE CENTS on a raised mound beneath the bison, where the denomination wore away too fast, so the Mint recessed it into a flat exergue partway through the year. This is the Type 1, the original arrangement, graded NGC MS64 with slight toning noted.
It is also the first year of a design that ran until 1938 and remains one of the most distinctly American things ever put on circulating coinage. See it in person at our St. Augustine shop.
