By 1900 the Morgan series was in its final stretch – production ran only to 1904 before stopping for seventeen years – and the coins of this period were struck from silver the Treasury had bought years earlier under the Sherman Act. The specification never moved across the whole run: 26.73 grams, 90 percent silver, a hair over three quarters of a troy ounce of metal in every coin.
