1882 sits squarely in the Bland-Allison stretch of the Morgan series, when law obliged the Treasury to buy silver month after month and coin it into dollars regardless of demand. All four mints that ever produced Morgans – Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco and Carson City – were striking them in 1882, which makes it a date with real variety behind it.
This one has sold. Common-date Morgans are still bought outright from the public here, by the coin or by the roll.
