San Francisco’s 1878 dollars came out of the first year of Morgan production, when the Mint was still working out how to strike a brand new design at three facilities at once. This example was described as a toner. Toning is not damage: it is a thin surface layer of silver sulfide, and on the right coin it is the entire reason someone buys it.
Sold. If you have toned dollars sitting in an album, bring them by – we buy outright.
