New Orleans struck this quarter in 1857, in the years when the mint there was one of the busiest branches in the country. It was a Liberty Seated quarter, from Christian Gobrecht’s design of a seated figure of Liberty with shield and pole, struck in the 90% silver standard of the period. The New Orleans Mint stopped federal coinage in 1861 when the city passed to the Confederacy.
This one has sold. Seated coinage of any denomination is always of interest at The Vault & Co., and we buy outright from the public.
