The $1 Liberty Gold Piece – Type 1 (1849–1854) contains .0484 oz of gold and features Longacre’s Liberty Head design. Offered in varying condition, it’s a historic and collectible pre-1933 U.S. coin.
Struck from 1849 to 1854, the $1 Liberty Gold Piece Type 1 is America’s very first gold dollar and the smallest coin ever produced by the U.S. Mint in both size and denomination. Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse shows Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed “Liberty,” while the reverse features a simple open wreath encircling the denomination and date.
Each coin contains .0484 troy ounces of pure gold (90% gold, 10% copper). Due to its petite size and historical significance, the Type 1 Gold Dollar is prized by collectors of early U.S. gold.
Offered in varying condition, this coin carries both historic and intrinsic value as an iconic pre-1933 collectible.
